What does Obama's Federal budget freeze look like?

In his first year, President Barack Hussein Obama has spent more money than all previous chief executives combined. (Much of it borrowed from China.) His dissembling continues as he makes speech after speech (including his State of the Union address), pretending now to be a fiscal hawk.

Obama is touting his bold plan to "cut" $20 billion from the 2011 Federal budget (which includes more than $1.5 trillion in deficit spending). True, $20 billion is a lot of money. But when you realize that the entire Federal budget is $3.8 trillion, it doesn't sound like so much.

Do the math:
Q. $20,000,000,000 is what percentage of $3,800,000,000,000?

A. 0.526%
In other words, Obama is proposing to "cut" less than one-half of one percent of Federal spending. To put this in perspective, it's as if an American family with the median household income of $45,000 decided to not spend a whopping $225 - next year.

Now that's tough fiscal leadership, isn't it?

Here's a great video illustrating the absurdity of Obama's smoke-and-mirrors budget freeze:

What do you think? How can we ever get Federal spending under control again?

  1. The very first sentence is not correct. Our president has spent as much as our President Bush did in his last 5 years. It's true he has spend lots, and most of that process was begun in the previous administration, but the problem we faced as a nation and as a world with the economic situation were very severe and massive. It required a massive dramatic solution. Just imagine how bad things would be now if we, and by that I mean all the nations of the earth, had not poured money toward slowing down the precipitous slide to anarchy and global depression.

  2. The only cuts that I have heard of is NASA and the Defense. Great more unemployment. And to Tim I say why are you concerned about global ecomomy? Billions poured into Hati in the 90's still poor. Billions poured into Africa, still poor. Money to Mexico and trade agreements, still poor. Government runs everything in Cuba, poor. You get the picture. The point of the post was not to once again give libs a platform to Blame Bush. It illustrates that what Obama says doesn't add up.

  3. Thanks for the comments, TimWilliamson. Quibble with the first sentence of the post if you like. The point of this was to show that Obama's sudden posing as a fiscal conservative is the most ridiculous thing ever. Obama is a reckless spender, and many people think he's trying to destroy the US economny by sinking it underneath debt loads that cannot be endured.

  4. fullboarliberty, you are exactly right. Government can NEVER create wealth, except by taking it from someone who already has it. Only capitalism creates the economic tides that float all boats.
